Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez | Archdiocese of Philedelphia

Faithful across Philadelphia's five-county Archdiocese will observe the Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord and the Sacred Paschal Triduum at local parishes from April 13 to April 20, 2025. On Palm Sunday, April 13, Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez will lead the 11:00 a.m. Procession and Solemn Mass at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. Members of the Cathedral Basilica and Cantus Angelorum Cathedral Choirs will contribute to the liturgical music, with blessed palm distributed at the Masses.

On Thursday, April 17, Archbishop Pérez will celebrate the Chrism Mass at 10:00 a.m., involving the blessing and consecration of the Holy Oils to be used in sacraments throughout the coming year. The ceremony invites priests of the Archdiocese to renew their priestly vows.

The Sacred Paschal Triduum will begin with the Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord's Supper on April 17 at 7:30 p.m. Archbishop Pérez will again act as the principal celebrant and homilist, washing the feet of 12 people in memory of Christ's Last Supper act. Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament will follow until 11:00 p.m. in the Basilica repository.

Good Friday will see the Celebration of the Passion of the Lord at 3:00 p.m. on April 18, with Archbishop Pérez presiding and preaching. Prior events include the Office of Readings, the Way of the Cross, and a Choral Meditation on the Passion.

The Easter Vigil Mass will take place on April 19 at 8:00 p.m., led by Archbishop Pérez, marking the Resurrection of the Lord. The Mass comprises four distinct parts, and members of the cathedral and other parish choirs will assist with liturgical music.

Finally, on Easter Sunday, April 20, Archbishop Pérez will lead the Solemn Mass at 11:00 a.m. Additional Masses will be held throughout the day in the Basilica.

Archbishop Pérez's events will be streamed live on Vimeo and his Facebook page, supported by the Catholic Charities Appeal. There are provisions for media coverage, including a mult-box feed for live-streamed events.
