The Vatican's Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life has released a pastoral framework titled "Life is always a good," which outlines a methodology for pastoral planning and synodal discernment. Bishop Daniel E. Thomas, who chairs the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life Activities, expressed support for this new framework.
Bishop Thomas highlighted that the framework aligns with the U.S. bishops' initiative, Walking with Moms in Need, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary. He stated: “We welcome today’s release of a pastoral framework entitled, ‘Life is always a good’ from the Vatican’s Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life."
This release coincides with the thirtieth anniversary of St. John Paul II’s pro-life encyclical, Evangelium Vitae (the Gospel of Life). The document addresses various life issues such as abortion, sexuality, violence against women, IVF, suicide, poverty, human trafficking, contraception, war, deportation, addictions, abortion healing, end-of-life care, and persons with disabilities.
Pope Francis had previously commented on these themes five years ago during the twenty-fifth anniversary of Evangelium Vitae. He emphasized the intrinsic value of every human life: “Dear Brothers and Sisters, every human life...has value in and of itself; it is of inestimable value."
