The School of Education at St. John's University will honor Mary Carole Schafenberg, a retired principal from the New York City Department of Education, at its 14th Annual Leaders in Education Awards Dinner (LEAD). The event is scheduled for April 10 at the Stewart Manor Country Club in Stewart Manor.

Schafenberg, who also serves as a member of The School of Education Dean’s Advisory Board, shared her thoughts on receiving the award: "It is a very humbling experience."

Reflecting on her career and education, Schafenberg said, "I am retired from the New York City Department of Education as a principal and currently serve as a member of The School of Education Dean’s Advisory Board." She credits her degrees from St. John’s University with providing her with "a very satisfying professional career."

She fondly remembers Teresa A. Trimarco, Ph.D., as an influential professor during her time at the university. Her cherished memories include attending classes at the Schermerhorn Street campus in Brooklyn and joining the sorority Delta Kappa Delta.

Offering advice to future alumni, Schafenberg encouraged them to "always remember to pay it forward and continue the legacy of St. John’s."
