St. John Vianney Seminary has appointed Father Angel Perez-Lopez as its fifth rector. Previously serving as Vicar for Clergy and pastor of St. Cajetan Parish, Father Perez-Lopez expressed gratitude for his new role. "I hope that the Lord continues to help me teach seminarians, by word and example, how to become holy priests," he stated.
Father Leonard praised Father Perez-Lopez as a man of "compassion, integrity, humility, and mission commitment." The seminary's faculty and students have shown strong support for the new rector. Fr. Jason Wallace, vocations director, commented on Father Perez-Lopez's leadership qualities: "God has blessed him with leadership, wisdom, and compassion." Lay Division Director Daniel Campbell described the occasion as "a great feast to install a new father of the seminary."
Archbishop Aquila delivered a homily emphasizing St. Joseph's virtues—faith, humility, and obedience—as essential qualities for the new rector to embody. He noted that these virtues are fundamental to priestly fatherhood and vital for forming future priests.
Seminarians expressed their enthusiasm for Father Perez-Lopez's appointment. Luke Metzer remarked that he looks up to him as a priest, while Tommy Myers noted that his focus is on being a father by teaching them how to be sons first.
Father Perez-Lopez called for prayers for himself and the seminary as he begins this new chapter. He highlighted the importance of families in fostering vocations: "Seminarians are not born in seminaries—they are born and raised in families," he said. "Pray for us and continue fostering vocations in your homes."
