The Nebraska Catholic Nurses collaborated with Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska for a service event in Lincoln on March 15. The nurses conducted a street walk starting at 10 a.m., inviting individuals living in their cars and on the streets to join them for lunch and a pedicure.

Dotti Easter, one of the founders of the Nebraska Catholic Nurses, highlighted the importance of foot care: “Proper foot care is crucial, for our feet provide mobility and overall are crucial for our well-being. Foot health can be a clue to your overall health. This is especially important for the poor and underserved.” She explained that many in need cannot afford proper footwear or socks, leading to open wounds and potential health issues.

During the event, nurses provided services such as washing feet, inspecting skin, dressing wounds, and trimming toenails. In some instances, this care improved how shoes fit their guests. Following these services, CSS offered a hot meal and fellowship from noon to 2 p.m. Easter expressed gratitude by saying, “God is so good!”

The Nebraska Catholic Nurses group was established in 2023 by Sister Joan Kolbe, M.S., Sister Faustina, M.S., and Dotti Easter from St. Benedict Parish in Nebraska City. They are affiliated with the Catholic Medical Association.

Their upcoming event is a retreat scheduled for Saturday, April 26. Father Christopher Kubat will present on "How the ethical and religious directives give us hope." The retreat will take place at St. Mary Church in Ashland beginning at 9 a.m. with Mass followed by breakfast. Father Kubat’s reflection will occur at 10 a.m., with adoration following from 11 a.m. to noon.
