The School of Education at St. John’s University hosted a Future and Emerging Educator event on February 22, aiming to inspire the next generation of educators in New York State. Held on the Queens, NY campus, the event provided attendees with opportunities to explore various programs and pathways toward a career in education.
High school students, current educators, and those interested in graduate programs attended the event. Participants learned about the benefits of majoring in education and how St. John’s University prepares its students for leadership roles in the field.
Dr. Wolfinger commented, “It is a creative approach to program recruitment and building stronger connections with local partner schools.” He added that The School looks forward to continuing such events to inspire future educators dedicated to making a difference in their communities.
Nadia Giannopoulos, Executive Director of the Marie Pense Center, delivered an inspiring keynote address. She discussed her journey in education and highlighted professional opportunities within the field.
The event featured interactive sessions like mock classroom experiences and faculty meet-and-greet sessions. Panel discussions provided guidance on navigating the education sector.
Robert DiNardo led a session focusing on the work of the Institute for Catholic Schools and scholarship opportunities for Catholic school teachers. Informational tables offered additional resources for students and parents seeking guidance.
A notable highlight was a breakout session led by members of The School of Education Future Educators Club. They shared personal stories and experiences as education majors at St. John’s, offering high school attendees insights into academic life at The School of Education.
