Iona University will honor Dr. Steven J. Corwin, president and CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian, at its annual Trustees Scholarship Award Gala on April 8, 2025. Dr. Corwin is set to receive the prestigious 2025 Iona Legacy Award during the event.
The gala celebrates the university's commitment to service and scholarship by recognizing distinguished alumni and community leaders who embody Iona's mission of transforming lives through education.
"It is an honor to recognize and celebrate Dr. Corwin, who embodies the Iona mission of service through his leadership at one of the nation’s top health care systems," stated Iona President Seamus Carey, Ph.D. He highlighted the collaboration between Iona and NewYork-Presbyterian, which has provided students with access to advanced health science education and hands-on clinical experiences.
Dr. Corwin expressed his gratitude for receiving the award: "I am honored to receive this year’s Iona Legacy Award and proud to be part of the Iona community." He emphasized that through the NewYork-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences, they are creating new pathways for successful careers in healthcare.
The NewYork-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences was established in July 2021 with a $20 million gift from NewYork-Presbyterian. The school operates from Iona's Bronxville campus and offers various undergraduate and graduate programs in health sciences.
The Kelly Center for Health Sciences serves as the school's flagship building, featuring interdisciplinary classrooms and simulation labs for student training. Al Kelly Jr., former CEO of Visa, along with his wife Peggy Kelly, are benefactors after whom the center is named.
This year's scholarship gala will see Mr. Kelly serving as master of ceremonies. Proceeds from the event will support student success initiatives at Iona University.
Past recipients of the Iona Legacy Award include notable figures such as His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan, U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy, and Ice Bucket Challenge co-founder Pat Quinn among others.
