DePaul experts offer insights into Trump's immigration policies

Three weeks into his second term, President Donald Trump and his administration have swiftly enacted immigration policies affecting refugees, asylum seekers, and undocumented immigrants. Experts from DePaul University are available to discuss the implications of these policies on various communities.

Kathleen Arnold, Director of Refugee and Forced Migration Studies at DePaul University, has both academic expertise and practical knowledge about the new administration's policies. She has appeared in media outlets like MSNBC to analyze migration policy and sanctuary ordinances. Arnold is an author of six books on related subjects.

Maria Joy Ferrera, Associate Professor of Social Work at DePaul University, conducts pro-bono mental health forensic asylum assessments for The Midwest Human Rights Consortium. She co-founded The Coalition for Immigrant Mental Health and can discuss the mental health impact on undocumented immigrants.

James Fujimoto, a Clinical Adjunct Instructor at DePaul's Asylum & Immigration Law Clinic, served as a judge at the Chicago Immigration Court until 2019. He provides training to attorneys serving immigrant populations and can speak about the challenges facing nonprofits in this area.

Craig B. Mousin teaches refugee and immigration law at DePaul's College of Law. He focuses on asylum law with an emphasis on religious persecution consequences. Mousin is involved with the National Immigrant Justice Center.

Xavier Perez from DePaul's Criminology Department researches immigration as a political issue and its criminalization aspects. He has shared insights on podcasts discussing challenges faced by minority communities.

Shailja Sharma, Professor of International Studies at DePaul University, can discuss migration patterns and U.S.-Mexico border issues. Her op-ed in the Chicago Tribune addresses potential solutions to these problems.

Rose Spalding is available to comment on Trump's interactions with Latin American countries regarding immigration policies. She authored "Breaking Ground: From Extraction Booms to Mining Bans in Latin America."

Shana Wills founded Refugee Education & Adventure Challenge, working with refugee youth in Chicago. She discusses the needs of refugees arriving in Chicago and moral imperatives concerning Afghan refugees.
