The House of Representatives has passed the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act with a vote of 217-204-1. The bill, led by Representative Ann Wagner and supported by Speaker Mike Johnson, aims to ensure medical care for infants who survive abortion attempts.
This legislative move follows the blocking of the same bill by Senate Democrats, which prevented it from advancing further. The vote comes in conjunction with the March for Life event, underscoring the ongoing debate over abortion rights and medical care for newborns.
Speaker Mike Johnson addressed the issue during a press conference prior to the vote. He posed a critical question: “Here’s the question and don’t let anybody distract you from what the question is. If a child is born alive, during an attempted abortion, and is crying and struggling to breathe on the operating table, should the doctor try to keep that child alive, or should the doctor deny that crying newborn child medical care and let the child die?”
The passage of this bill was met with approval from pro-life advocates. Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of SBA Pro-Life America, expressed her support for this legislative achievement in the House.
