On the weekend of January 18-19, parishes across Kentucky will participate in the Opportunities for Life (OFL) collection. This initiative is held annually near the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade on January 22. The collection is part of a unified effort by Kentucky bishops to promote a pro-life culture within the state.
In Louisville, the Archdiocese plans to allocate funds from this collection to support pregnant women and families facing crises. Resources will be distributed through Catholic Charities of Louisville and the Office of Family and Life Ministries, providing both material assistance and supportive programming.
Catholic Charities of Louisville manages these efforts through its Community Support Services department. The Lifeline Fund, one such program, offers financial aid to pregnant or new mothers in need. Additional services include Mother-Infant Care for expecting parents and Mama Matters for new parents, along with professional social work guidance for parish volunteers assisting expecting parents.
Further expanding their outreach, Catholic Charities and the Office of Family and Life Ministries administer the "Walking with Moms in Need" program. This local version of a national initiative encourages Catholic parishes and communities to support pregnant women and parenting mothers by connecting them with resources through Catholic Charities.
Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre emphasized the importance of supporting those experiencing unexpected pregnancies: “As you consider your gift, please pray that those experiencing an untimely pregnancy will have the courage to seek help and affirm life as we pray that our culture strengthens its resolve to support both unborn children and their parents.”
Sincerely,
Most Reverend Shelton J. Fabre
Archbishop of Louisville
