Walsh University is set to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy through a Day of Service on January 20, followed by Human Dignity Week from January 20-24. The initiative will see hundreds of students participate in community service projects throughout Stark County, aligning with Dr. King's mission to promote peace, solidarity, and care for marginalized groups.
The event will commence at 8:00 a.m. with breakfast at the Schervish Dining Centre located in the David Center. Stark County Prosecutor Kyle Stone will address the volunteers to inspire them before they engage in various community service activities. Students are expected to contribute their efforts across more than 13 local organizations both on campus and within Stark County.
Service sites include Beech Creek Botanical Gardens, Boys and Girls Club, Gigi's Playhouse, GentleBrooke Sportsplex, House of Loreto, Hoover Historical Center at Walsh University, Lighthouse Ministry, Refuge of Hope, SAM Center, Spring Hill Historic Home, Stark Fresh, Walsh University Basketball Clinic, Walsh University Facilities, Walsh University Prevention & Education, and Windsor Medical.
Throughout Human Dignity Week from January 20-24, additional events centered around human dignity will take place at Walsh University. These events include the MLK Jr. Essay Contest, workshops, campus ministry activities as well as a basketball game. Key highlights feature the Blouin Scholar Human Dignity and Poverty Awareness event and a March for Life trip to Washington D.C., alongside Men's and Women's basketball games against Malone University.
