Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez | Archdiocese of Philedelphia
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia has announced that Reverend Christopher Redcay will be the next Rector of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, effective July 1, 2025. Father Redcay is set to replace Most Reverend Keith J. Chylinski, who was appointed an Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia in December 2023.
Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez expressed his confidence in Father Redcay's leadership capabilities and experience with priestly formation. "I am overjoyed to make this appointment and have the greatest confidence that Father Redcay will serve with distinction as the next Rector of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary," he stated.
Father Redcay currently serves as the Director of Spiritual Formation for Theology Division students at the seminary and has been part of its community since his ordination in 1989. He reflected on his new role by saying, “I am honored by the confidence of Archbishop Pérez in appointing me to this most important position at the Seminary."
Bishop Chylinski will assume oversight of the Archdiocese's Office for Catholic Education (OCE) on July 1, 2025, following a plan outlined by Archbishop Pérez last year. Bishop Chylinski expressed gratitude for Father Redcay’s appointment: “I am filled with gratitude and joy for Father Redcay’s appointment as the next Rector of our beloved Seminary.”
Father Redcay has held various roles within the Church since his ordination, including serving as Pastor at multiple parishes and engaging in spiritual direction training at the Institute for Priestly Formation in Omaha, Nebraska.
Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary was founded in 1832 and currently enrolls 140 seminarians from various dioceses and religious communities worldwide.
