Ursuline Sister Antonine Biven passes away after decades-long dedication

Ursuline Sister Antonine Biven passed away on December 28 at Nazareth Home Clifton. She was 96 years old and had dedicated 77 years to religious life.

Born in Louisville, Sister Biven graduated from the former Ursuline Academy and joined the Ursuline Sisters at the age of 19. She pursued higher education, earning a bachelor's degree from the former Ursuline College, as well as master's degrees from Notre Dame University and Loyola University New Orleans.

Throughout her career, Sister Biven taught music at several schools including St. Raphael, Our Lady of Lourdes, St. Francis of Assisi, Sacred Heart Model schools, and others that have since closed such as St. Therese and St. Helen schools. Her teaching extended beyond Kentucky to Mississippi and South Carolina.

Her service included pastoral ministry and music ministry roles at various churches including the former St. Mary Church in Bullitt County and the former St. Helen Church. She also contributed to music ministry at Our Lady of Lourdes Church.

Sister Biven's leadership roles included serving on the Ursuline leadership team and involvement with Project Women (now Family Scholar House) and Marian Home.

She is survived by her nieces, nephews, and members of the Ursuline community.

Visitation is scheduled for January 9 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Bosse Funeral Home located on Ellison Avenue, with a vigil service at 3:30 p.m.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on January 10 at 11 a.m. in the Ursuline Motherhouse chapel followed by burial in St. Michael Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Sister Biven can be sent to the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville Donor Relations Office on Lexington Road in Louisville.
