Reverend Joseph E. Kurtz, D.D. Bishop | Archdiocese of Louisville
St. Xavier High School has announced the appointment of Dr. Daniel McCue as its 24th principal, effective from the 2025-2026 academic year. Dr. McCue is currently serving as the assistant principal and holds the position of Carl '45 and Rosemary Mueller Distinguished Faculty Fellow at the school.
Dr. McCue's association with St. Xavier began in 2004 when he joined as a faculty member and coach. Over the years, he taught subjects including calculus, physics, and engineering, eventually becoming the director of STEM (Science Technology, Engineering and Math). In this role, he played a pivotal part in developing both the Innovation Lab and STEM curriculum.
He obtained his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in secondary education from the University of Notre Dame. In 2020, he completed his doctoral studies in educational leadership at Spalding University.
Dr. McCue will take over from Amy Sample, who has been with St. Xavier since 2018 and became its first female principal in 2020 during her tenure at this historic institution.
