Walsh University has received a grant of $645,158 from the State of Ohio's Choose Ohio First (COF) program. This initiative aims to boost opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The funds will support Walsh University's efforts to prepare students for careers in high-demand fields and contribute to workforce development in Ohio.

"This funding enables Walsh University to enhance our STEM programs and provide students with an education that directly aligns with the needs of today’s industries," stated Tim Collins, President of Walsh University. "We are committed to equipping our students with the skills and experiences they need to build meaningful careers and contribute to Ohio’s dynamic and growing workforce."

Ohio Department of Higher Education Chancellor Mike Duffey added, "Choose Ohio First continues to provide students who stay in Ohio to continue their education with the opportunity to succeed in high-demand STEM fields. This newest award demonstrates Walsh University’s commitment to giving its students in such fields as computer science, biology, and chemistry the tools for a successful future."

The COF program is central to the state's strategy for developing STEM talent. For Fiscal Year 2025, it has allocated $32.5 million in scholarships from Academic Year (AY) 2026 through AY30. This is part of a broader investment totaling $200 million for scholarships spanning AY21 through AY29. By supporting quality STEM programs and building partnerships with local employers, COF aims to address workforce shortages while ensuring economic growth.

Since its inception in 2008, the COF program has helped increase enrollment and graduation rates in STEM disciplines across Ohio through scholarships and experiential learning opportunities like internships and research projects. These initiatives aim at meeting workforce demands in critical sectors including advanced manufacturing, healthcare, information technology, and aerospace.

Walsh University was chosen due to its strong track record of preparing students for impactful careers in areas such as healthcare, finance, data analytics, and technology. The university's focus on interdisciplinary learning and collaboration with local industries equips graduates for roles within Ohio's evolving economy.
