Saints John Neumann and Maria Goretti Catholic High School (Neumann Goretti) is set to face Southern (South Philadelphia High School) in a Thanksgiving Day football game. The match will take place on Thursday, November 28, 2024, with a kick-off scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the South Philadelphia Supersite located at the corner of South 10th and Bigler Streets in Philadelphia.
During halftime, Neumann Goretti plans to honor a dedicated alumnus by presenting the school's first "Fan of the Year" award. This tradition was revitalized in 2021 when Neumann Goretti and Southern brought back the Thanksgiving Day football game that has been part of their history for nearly 90 years. It holds the distinction of being the longest-running Catholic school versus public school Thanksgiving high school football game in Philadelphia.
In addition to the game, Neumann Goretti will host a festival featuring a pre-game celebration where attendees can meet the football team. Special merchandise will be available, and local vendors will participate in this annual event. More information about the Neumann Goretti Annual Turkey Bowl and Festival can be found online.
Saints Neumann Goretti Catholic High School was established as a co-educational institution in 2004, marking its 20th anniversary this year. It carries forward a legacy from its predecessor schools: Saint Maria Goretti for Girls, Southeast Catholic, Bishop Neumann, and Saint John Neumann for Boys high schools. The school serves a diverse student body in South Philadelphia and emphasizes core values such as compassion, courage, and commitment.
