Reverend Joseph E. Kurtz, D.D. Bishop | Archdiocese of Louisville
The Archbishop of Louisville, Most Reverend Shelton J. Fabre, has announced the upcoming annual collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious, set to take place on December 7-8. This appeal aims to support over 24,000 elderly religious sisters, brothers, and priests across the nation who have dedicated their lives to service.
Archbishop Fabre expressed his gratitude for the significant influence these religious individuals have had on his spiritual journey and their impact on the community. He noted that many senior religious members face financial challenges due to low pay during their service years, rising healthcare costs, and reduced income. These factors make it difficult for religious communities to provide necessary care for aging members.
In 2023, donations amounted to $29.3 million, aiding 286 U.S. religious communities with retirement needs. Archbishop Fabre encouraged parishioners to contribute generously and keep religious members in their prayers.
"Together, let us support the many religious women and men who have made enormous contributions to our Church and to the world," he stated.
The archbishop concluded his message by expressing his ongoing commitment to the cause.
