The Auburn Chamber of Commerce has awarded St. Francis Gift & Thrift (SFGT), a business operated by Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska (CSS), the title of "Business of the Year." This accolade recognizes a Chamber member that invests in the well-being of Auburn and Nemaha County. SFGT was among four businesses nominated for this honor.
Leslie Clark, executive director of the Auburn Chamber of Commerce, remarked on the significance of this recognition for non-profits like SFGT. "As a non-profit, businesses like St. Francis Gift and Thrift don’t always feel their work is noticed," she said. "This award shows that this business is very much noticed and appreciated."
The award coincided with SFGT's 20th anniversary since its establishment by CSS. April Boellstorff, Auburn CSS regional director, expressed gratitude while accepting the award: “Our hearts are filled with gratitude and a joy that will keep our cups filled for a long time.”
Boellstorff acknowledged the role of donors and volunteers in supporting CSS programs and ensuring smooth operations at SFGT. The store's nomination highlighted its unique collection where community members come together to provide "Hope in the Good Life."
“It’s a place where everyone can serve one another – from donors to volunteers, to neighbors in need,” noted the nomination. It emphasized that store profits support local communities through various forms of assistance including food markets and financial aid.
In recent years, CSS has invested in property renovations to maintain its historic downtown Auburn location. Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska serves people across southern Nebraska through outreach centers located in Lincoln, Auburn, Hastings, and Imperial.
