Earlier this month, the University of Dallas hosted Talmage Boston, a lawyer, historian, and author. Boston was the latest guest speaker for the Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business' Leaders and Legends series.
The series aims to enhance the College of Business' mission by inviting successful business leaders to share their experiences with students. This program invites alumni and business leaders to join the university in pursuing excellent leadership.
Boston is an acclaimed attorney recognized by the Texas Bar Foundation and the State Bar of Texas. His history books on baseball and American presidents have been praised by Annette Gordon-Reed, Evan Thomas, Doris Kearns Goodwin, and Jon Meacham.
Over 70 people attended the event, including students, faculty, friends of the university, and members of the Gupta College of Business advisory board.
"Boston Talmage captured the entire audience for nearly two hours — an impressive feat," said politics major Alethea Malloy '25. "I left immensely enriched and eager to implement new habits inspired by his presentation of the specific and unique ways in which America's finest presidents cultivated persuasive personas."
Boston recently published "How the Best Did It: Leadership Lessons From Our Top Presidents." The book draws leadership lessons from top U.S. presidents applicable to leaders today across various fields. Each chapter concludes with a self-examination questionnaire for readers to assess their leadership skills.
Professor Scott Crider thanked J. Lee Whittington, dean of the Gupta College of Business, for organizing Boston's visit. "It was a great event if only for all of us to be reminded what decency looks like — in his subjects and his own demeanor," Crider stated.
Readers can learn more about Talmage Boston and his new book through available resources.
