Reverend Joseph E. Kurtz, D.D. Bishop | Archdiocese of Louisville
On November 2, Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre led a special Mass at Calvary Cemetery in Louisville to honor the deceased. Approximately 75 attendees gathered under a tent in the section reserved for clergy.
Archbishop Fabre addressed the gathering, stating, "There are those who might think it foolish to be here," but emphasized that "the ties that join us in life do not unravel with death." He continued, "If there’s any reason we are here this morning, in the end, it’s because of love."
The archbishop highlighted the role of faith in comforting those who mourn, saying, "Perhaps some of you have been coming here for a long time. Perhaps for some of you, your grief is fresh and your tears still fall."
The annual liturgy is organized by Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Louisville. Archbishop Fabre expressed his hope that it provides consolation to those present: "I hope you will know that hope will not disappoint us. That our Lord Jesus Christ, who conquered death, gathers the dead unto himself and we gather because the ties that bind us in life do not unravel with death and love is victorious even over death."
