Young parishioners at Holy Name Church have created a Día de los Muertos altar to honor All Souls' Day on November 2. The altar, adorned with flowers and sweet breads, serves as a backdrop for photos of the deceased. Father William Bowling, the pastor, described it as an annual tradition at the church.
"People will place the pictures of their beloved deceased on the altar or write the name of their beloved deceased in the book of the dead and we pray for them during November," said Father Bowling.
The confirmation class consists of 18 middle and high school students, according to Father Bowling. Día de los Muertos is widely observed in Mexico and other parts of Latin America as a way to commemorate All Souls' Day.
