St. John’s University senior Isabel Notaro is set to graduate in May with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Over the summer, she interned at Trellix, gaining practical experience in human resources (HR), specifically within Talent, Engagement, Diversity, and Development (TEDD). Under the supervision of Jennifer McCrea, Isabel engaged in various administrative tasks and HR initiatives that contributed to her professional development.
"A typical day for me started with logging into Google Workspace to check emails and see if there were any new tasks," Isabel explained. "I would send out onboarding surveys, participate in weekly learning cohorts with the executive leadership team, and join TEDD team meetings to review objectives."
Isabel collaborated closely with Ms. McCrea on office responsibilities such as preparing new-hire welcome packets and analyzing survey data related to Trellix's onboarding process. She also assisted in planning virtual events like Fun Fridays and Global Intern Day to enhance intern engagement. Additionally, she created a presentation highlighting interns' educational backgrounds and their respective Trellix locations.
Her role extended beyond these duties as Ms. McCrea encouraged her collaboration with the TEDD team on projects like creating a "Poor Performance Evaluation" deck for managers and facilitating Life Orientation training for over 40 interns. This assessment categorized interns based on workplace strengths and weaknesses.
"I found this training especially impactful," Isabel said. "It offered insights into effectively communicating with colleagues who exhibit different work styles."
One significant project involved leading a focus group across regions including the Americas, EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa), LATAM (Latin America), and APAC to identify root causes from sales engagement surveys.
During her internship at Trellix, Isabel acquired valuable skills related to HR operations within Talent and Engagement sectors. She learned about recruitment processes, developed proficiency in Google Workspace tools, analyzed engagement survey data, and managed multiple projects simultaneously.
Mentorship played a crucial role throughout her internship experience. A mentor outside the HR team helped define her career path while TEDD team members provided ongoing advice on growing within the HR field. This guidance solidified her decision to pursue an HR career after graduation.
