Today, the American Principles Project (APP) submitted an amicus brief to the Supreme Court in support of Tennessee's law that bans sex-change drugs and surgeries for minors. This filing is part of the upcoming case United States v. Skrmetti.

The brief contends that Tennessee's legislation is constitutional and necessary, citing increasing evidence that questions the effectiveness and benefits of "gender affirming care." The APP argues that this matter should be resolved through democratic processes. Currently, 25 states have enacted laws restricting sex-change procedures for minors in some form.

Earlier this year, APP published a report titled "The Gender Industrial Complex," which detailed the $4.4 billion transgender medical industry. The report highlighted costs associated with various drugs and surgeries, health complications faced by patients, and identified pharmaceutical companies and hospitals profiting significantly.

Terry Schilling, President of APP, commented on the significance of the forthcoming case:

"In recent months, the full scale of the egregious medical malpractice of so-called ‘gender affirming care’ has become horrifyingly clear. Thanks to recent research, we know that tens of thousands of American children are being given drugs and surgeries to alter their sex characteristics, and we know that the industry pushing these ‘treatments’ is making over $4 billion annually."

Schilling further stated:

"But even as this transgender industry is exploding, reviews of these practices are also showing the extreme damage they are wreaking on vulnerable patients. Numerous European countries have begun to pull back, while more and more detransitioners are speaking out about their own awful experiences, with some filing malpractice lawsuits against those who encouraged them into sterilizing and mutilating their bodies."

He added:

"With the Biden-Harris administration fully committed to defending gender ideology, many states like Tennessee have been forced to take action to protect children from this predatory industry. They are right to do so, and it is absurd to argue the Constitution says otherwise. We urge the Supreme Court to uphold Tennessee’s law and affirm the right of the American people to safeguard their kids from medical harm."
