The 25th annual National Farmers’ Market Week is approaching, scheduled for August 4-10. Gray Street Farmers’ Market, located at 485 E. Gray St., will be participating in the celebration. The market operates every Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. until September 26.
On August 8, Catholic Charities of Louisville will conduct a “Windowbox Garden” demonstration aimed at providing gardening ideas for those with limited space.
The market is a joint effort between Catholic Charities, the University of Louisville School of Public Health & Information Services, and the Louisville Department of Health & Wellness. It aims to promote healthy eating by offering affordable produce to the downtown food desert, according to a July 31 press release from Catholic Charities.
The produce available at the market is cultivated by refugee farmers across 520 garden plots in Louisville through Catholic Charities of Louisville’s Common Earth Gardens program. The Gray Street Farmers’ Market accepts SNAP (double dollars), Fresh Rx, and Senior Vouchers.
