A new law has been enacted in Missouri, prohibiting abortion businesses from receiving Medicaid funding. This legislation was signed by Governor Mike Parson following the approval of HB 2634 by significant margins in both the House and Senate. The decision comes after a video surfaced allegedly showing Planned Parenthood attempting to transport a minor out of state.
The controversial footage reportedly features an employee from Great Plains offering assistance to a man seeking to transport his 13-year-old girlfriend to a Kansas Planned Parenthood facility for an abortion. The employee is quoted as saying, “We never tell the parents anything. She’s an adult in our clinics.” In response to this incident, Attorney General Andrew Bailey filed a lawsuit for violation of parental consent laws.
“This is the beginning of the end of Planned Parenthood in the State of Missouri,” AG Bailey stated on X.
In retaliation, Planned Parenthood is supporting a Missouri abortion ballot measure that would require taxpayer funding for abortions and eliminate the state's parental consent laws. This measure would also permit all-trimester abortions and remove health and safety regulations on Planned Parenthood, which had previously closed a facility in 2018 due to the use of moldy abortion equipment.
Sue Liebel, Midwest regional director for SBA Pro-Life America, expressed her support for the new law: “We applaud Gov. Parson and Republicans for standing up for the rights of girls and parents against the predatory abortion industry. Parents have the right to have a say in their daughters’ lives and to protect them from abusers and sex traffickers that Planned Parenthood allegedly enables. We must continue to fight as Planned Parenthood attempts to put an abortion measure on the ballot that would erase parental consent laws and remove health and safety regulations protecting women and girls.”
