The May 3, 2024, edition of the Canton Repository featured an article by Amy Knapp highlighting the journey of Willis "Bill" Rambo, a distinguished alumnus and benefactor of Walsh University. Rambo, reflecting on his transformative experience, expressed, "Walsh really changed me."
Rambo, a 1960 Central Catholic graduate, shared insights into his humble beginnings, stating, "We weren't dirt poor but we didn't have much." Despite uncertainties after high school, he recognized the importance of pursuing higher education, mentioning, "But then Walsh came to town. It was the right opportunity."
Amy Knapp's article noted that Rambo holds a significant place in the history of Walsh University, being the first student to apply and be registered 64 years ago when it was known as Walsh College. Reflecting on his early days, Rambo admitted, "I was too young to know what was cheap or expensive when it came to higher education." He also acknowledged the support of his grandparents, who assisted with tuition so he could be the first in his family to attend college.
Rambo's dedication to his alma mater is evident through his upcoming role as the commencement speaker for the Class of 2024 at Walsh University. Additionally, he will be receiving an honorary doctorate in business, embodying the spirit of servant leadership instilled by Walsh's founders, the Brothers of Christian Instruction.
As Walsh University prepares to celebrate the accomplishments of its graduating class, Bill Rambo's return to campus serves as a testament to the enduring impact of education and the profound influence of alma maters in shaping lives.
