The Serra Club of Lincoln recently awarded scholarships to students who excelled in the organization's annual essay contest. The event took place on April 19 at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, where the winners were recognized during a special luncheon.
Bede Bolin, the president of the Serra Club of Lincoln, praised the winning essays, stating, "The winners’ essays were particularly outstanding, exhibiting a deep understanding, creativity, originality, and profound theological insights into the Eucharist." Bolin also noted that the essays had a significant impact on readers, indicating the quality of the students' writing.
The three scholarship recipients, Annie Brox, Eleanor Pfeiffer, and Madeline Schinstock, all from St. Teresa Elementary School, were awarded scholarships to Pius X High School. Madeline Schinstock, the first-place winner, received a $1,000 scholarship, while Eleanor Pfeiffer and Annie Brox received $500 and $250 scholarships, respectively.
During the luncheon, each of the scholarship winners had the opportunity to read their winning essays aloud, showcasing their ability to express their thoughts effectively through writing.
The essay contest theme was inspired by the upcoming National Eucharistic Congress, scheduled for July 17-21 in Indianapolis. This event marks the first Eucharistic Congress to be held in the United States in 83 years and is part of the ongoing National Eucharistic Revival.
The Serra Club of Lincoln, comprised of Catholic men dedicated to promoting vocations to the priesthood and religious life, aims to support and encourage students in their academic and spiritual growth. Through events like the essay contest, the club fosters a sense of community and fellowship among its members, while also advancing the teachings of the Catholic faith.
The recognition of these talented students by the Serra Club of Lincoln serves as a testament to the importance of education, faith, and the celebration of young scholars who excel in expressing their beliefs and insights through the written word.
