A Lincoln woman, Rebecca Heavican, recently shared her journey of perseverance and faith as she continued her pilgrimage despite facing various setbacks. Heavican, a member of North American Martyrs Parish, embarked on the diocesan Eucharistic Passport Pilgrimage, determined to visit 17 locations and participate in Eucharistic adoration along the way.
Heavican initially faced challenges in coordinating her visits due to life's interruptions, including fluctuating work schedules and unexpected events like the unavailability of adoration during Spring Break at a particular church. She even found herself in a minor mishap when she accidentally drove into a ditch after a gas stop in Plattsmouth. However, with the help of a Good Samaritan, Heavican was able to continue her journey unscathed.
Despite these setbacks, Heavican remained resolute in her quest, often accompanied by her dog Zeus or her sister. She found solace in the breathtaking scenery and moments of prayer during her travels. Reflecting on her experiences, Heavican expressed gratitude for the blessings she received along the way, stating, "The blessings have definitely outweighed the struggles."
In addition to the physical challenges, Heavican's pilgrimage also nourished her spiritually. She shared that the journey renewed her faith and love for the Eucharist and Jesus, describing it as a "great journey with lasting memories." Encouraged by the pilgrimage experiences, she further engaged with her faith during Holy Week by watching religious films and series.
Heavican's inspiring story serves as a testament to the power of perseverance and faith in overcoming obstacles. Her unwavering commitment to completing the pilgrimage despite the hurdles she faced is a reminder of the transformative nature of spiritual journeys.
