Fr. Michael Peltzer, a revered priest of the Diocese of Wichita for nearly 44 years, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, at the age of 70. The news of his death has deeply saddened the community he served for decades.
A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 15, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Wichita, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Wichita. Graveside services will then take place at 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Andale, honoring his life and service to the church.
Throughout his career, Fr. Peltzer dedicated himself to his faith and his parishioners. He took on various roles within the Diocese, including serving as the pastor of St. Joan of Arc Parish in Harper County, a position he assumed on August 3, 1998.
In addition to his contributions to the church, Fr. Peltzer was known for his commitment to his family. He is survived by his brother, Christopher; a sister and brother-in-law, Theresa and Michael Elpers; nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews who will cherish his memory.
Fr. Michael Peltzer's passing marks the end of an era for the Diocese of Wichita, where he leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and dedication. He will be remembered fondly by all those whose lives he touched during his long and meaningful tenure as a priest.
