OVIEDO | The Chapman family recently completed a significant milestone in their faith journey by joining the Catholic Church at Most Precious Blood Parish in Oviedo. The family's transition from a non-denominational background to Catholicism was a profound and transformative experience.
Caleb Chapman, reflecting on their journey, shared how their previous faith experiences were lacking depth and meaning. He mentioned, “We’ve lived pagan lives this whole time, and even before... If you could say we had any religion at all, it was sports.” However, a series of events, including rediscovering a childhood Bible and prompted by the Holy Spirit, led Caleb and his wife, Ashley, to delve deeper into their faith.
Their exploration took them through various Christian denominations until they unexpectedly found themselves drawn to Catholicism. Caleb admitted to initially feeling hesitant about attending Mass but was eventually moved by the presence he felt during the service. Ashley and their eldest son, Chase, also appreciated the tradition and structure of the Catholic Mass, prompting the entire family to explore the Catholic faith further.
After meeting with the director of adult formation at Most Precious Blood Parish, the Chapman family made the decision to join the Catholic Church. Caleb expressed their excitement and readiness for the challenges ahead, stating, “We’re excited about becoming Catholics and putting the Lord first in our lives... There are going to be bumps and bruises along the way. But we’re really excited about the challenge ahead and living for God.”
The transition to Catholicism brought about different challenges for each family member. The children, who were heavily involved in extracurricular activities, now find themselves balancing their schedules with faith formation and daily family rosaries. Despite the adjustments, they all expressed a sense of fulfillment and spiritual growth.
As the Chapman family embraces their new faith, they acknowledge the support of their relatives and friends, despite some challenging moments. Ashley expressed her pride in sharing their journey with others, hoping to inspire and impact those around them.
The family's journey culminated in a heartwarming experience at the Easter Vigil, where Caleb, Ashley, and Chase were officially welcomed into the Catholic Church. The Chapmans look forward to their continued growth in faith and the initiation of the rest of the family in the coming year.
The Chapman family’s story serves as a testament to the transformative power of faith and the importance of spiritual exploration. As they embark on this new chapter in their lives, they hope to continue sharing their journey and living out their newfound Catholic beliefs.
