St. Joseph Academy and Catholic High School, both of Baton Rouge, recently concluded their 2024 Challenge Season on March 22. The schools vied with each other in a Can Week collection drive to see which school could raise the most cans and monetary donations for the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. The can drive was followed by a Challenge Day of competitive games in which each winner’s school was awarded points. The schools also received points for meeting their goals in the can drive.
In the end, Catholic High School emerged victorious, claiming the coveted trophy with a final score of 11-6 over St. Joseph Academy. The annual event, highly anticipated by both schools, saw CHS dethroning SJA, which had aimed for a three-peat victory.
The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank was the ultimate beneficiary of this friendly competition, with its leadership acknowledging the event as one of the most significant food drives of the year. Both schools successfully met their goals in the can drive, making a substantial impact on the community. Catholic High School collected enough food and monetary donations to provide 34,427 meals for families in need, while St. Joseph Academy raised enough to provide 28,352 meals. Together, the two schools combined efforts resulted in a total of 62,779 meals being provided for families facing poverty.
The successful conclusion of the 2024 Challenge Season not only showcased the competitive spirit of the schools but also highlighted their commitment to serving the community in need.
