Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach in Lincoln, Nebraska, is joining the nationwide effort to fight hunger through the Souper Bowl of Caring. This annual event, which has been running for over 30 years, invites people from all 50 states to make a collective impact on hunger while enjoying the excitement of the biggest football game of the year.

As part of the Souper Bowl of Caring, groups are encouraged to collect donations of cash or needed items for the guests at Matt Talbot. Whether it's forming teams at churches, workplaces, or schools, participants can create friendly competitions to see who can collect the most pounds of food or cash. The goal is to come together as a community and tackle hunger head-on.

According to Jenn Boettcher, the contact person for the event, some of the items that are needed include soup, cereal, oatmeal, pasta, pasta sauce, granola bars, canned beef and chicken, deodorant, wet wipes, and tampons. Boettcher can be reached at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 402.817.0615 for any questions or further information.

The Souper Bowl of Caring activities can take place anytime in January or February, allowing flexibility for participants to organize and contribute at their own convenience. By registering on the Matt Talbot website (mtko.org/events), interested individuals and groups can access resources and learn more about how they can make a difference in their community.

Supporting those in need is at the core of Matt Talbot's mission. The organization provides two hot nutritious meals every day of the year, ensuring that individuals facing hunger have access to nourishing food. In addition to addressing hunger relief, Matt Talbot offers a range of services to prevent homelessness, such as life skills training, tenant education, drug and alcohol counseling, case management, and housing assistance. They also provide support for basic and emergency needs like showers and laundry services.

As the Souper Bowl of Caring approaches, let's come together as a community, inspired by the words of Matt Talbot himself: "We can make a difference in the lives of those who are struggling with hunger and homelessness. Together, we can tackle these challenges and create a brighter future for all."
