Among the recipients is the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral's St. Vincent de Paul Outreach Ministries, which received a $10,000 grant from Flaget Memorial Hospital. The grant will be used to support the ministry's food pantry and provide cooking classes for low-income individuals in Nelson County.
Chris Hovan, executive director of the Basilica's SVDP outreach ministries, expressed gratitude for the grant, stating, "Our food pantries serve over 1,000 of our Nelson County neighbors each month. We are grateful for this gift that allows us to purchase nutritious food to stock our shelves."
In total, over $358,000 was awarded across the state of Kentucky as part of the CommonSpirit Health Community Health Improvement Grants program. These grants aim to support agencies addressing issues such as substance use disorders, mental health, weight status, physical activity, and nutrition.
