While the vote for the Value Them Both amendment will officially take place on Aug. 2, there are several ways for voters to access polls.

When voters go to the booth on Aug. 2, Kansas will become the first state to vote on a referendum involving abortion since Roe v. Wade was overturned.

“State law requires polling places to open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. on election day," according to the Kansas secretary of state’s website. "State law allow counties to open polling locations as early as 6:00 a.m. and close as late as 8:00 p.m. Pursuant to K.S.A. 25-106 polling locations must be open for at least 12 consecutive hours. Please verify the operating hours in your county with your local election officer."

Those wishing to register to vote in Kansas can do so with a valid Kansas driver’s license, a state-issued identification card or may use a paper application.

Advance voting is allowed at satellite voting locations beginning 20 days before an election. Kansans may engage in advance voting July 13 for the Aug. 2 election.

The deadline to submit an application to vote by mail for the Aug. 2 elections July 26. Mail-in ballots will start being sent to voters on July 13.

Voters can find information on registering to vote and polling locations through the Kansas secretary of state’s website at https://sos.ks.gov.

According to statistics, 289,569 Catholics are eligible to vote in the state.
