During this holiday season, we should prepare our hearts to run to meet our Lord and Savior. | James Chan/Pixabay
St. Benedict Catholic Church in Falcon, Colo., recently shared a note from the pastor’s desk on the topic of God’s love for us.
“The opening prayer for the first Sunday of Advent asks Almighty God that we may ‘resolve to run forth to meet Christ,’” Fr. Michael Goodyear said in the church’s Nov. 29 bulletin. “Christmas preparation is normally characterized by a lot of running around from store to store, from party to party, but it is not always a ‘running forth to meet Christ.’”
We should feel compelled and convicted to spend more time with our Lord. There are many ways in which to do this, but perhaps one of the best ways is by reflecting on the Lord in the womb of Our Blessed Mother.
“As St. Faustina so beautifully puts it: ‘Your beauty so enthralled the Thrice-Holy One’s eye, That He came down from heaven, Forsaking th’eternal See’s throne, And assumed from your Heart Body and Blood, Hiding for nine months in your Virginal Heart. O Mother, Virgin, this will no one comprehend, That the infinite God is becoming a man; It’s only love’s and His inscrutable mercy’s purpose,’” Goodyear quoted St. Faustina’s words.
As we prepare for the Christmas season and ready our hearts to greet our Lord; let us turn to praying the rosary, to lighting our Advent Wreaths, to adoration of our Lord and to being the hands and feet of Christ to those around us.
“Let us do all this remembering the beautiful words of St. John the Evangelist: ‘In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins,’” Fr. Goodyear said. “Let us ‘run forth’ in love to meet our Divine Savior.”
With Christmas only a few weeks away, let us prepare our hearts for the remembrance of the coming of Our Lord.
