Every day, more than a dozen residents of St. Joseph’s Home gather with the Little Sisters of the Poor to offer the sacrifice of the Mass. The chapel is adorned with flowers arranged by a retired florist living at the home. Residents participate actively in the service, with one proclaiming the readings and another ringing bells during consecration.

Nearby, at Nazareth Home’s Highlands Campus, several residents also attend daily Mass. Founded by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Nazareth Home offers Mass from Sunday to Friday at both its Highlands and Clifton campuses.

The Catholic Church will celebrate the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly on July 27, as established by Pope Francis in 2021. This year’s theme is “Blessed are those who have not lost hope.”

Marilyn Yurt has been praying the rosary daily since childhood at St. Agnes Church near her current residence at Nazareth Home. "I say the rosary every day," she said.

Mary Catherine Fries attends daily Mass and Communion and streams nightly rosaries. "It becomes a habit," she noted.

Carolyn Sims moved to Nazareth Home five years ago specifically for daily Mass availability. "That’s why I chose it," she said.

James “Jim” Bartley, another resident, was raised Catholic and continues his faith practices there. "I talk to the Lord like we’re together," he stated.

Helen Dennison benefits from attending daily Mass and appreciates the care provided by the Little Sisters of the Poor at St. Joseph’s Home. "People do not know the wonderful work the sisters do," she said.

Libbye West converted to Catholicism after moving into St. Joseph's apartments 11 years ago, crediting her conversion to conversations with some sisters there.

Residents express gratitude for having access to chapels within their homes, allowing them frequent opportunities for prayer without needing to travel elsewhere.
