As God has forgiven us, the Gospel message from Sept. 13 calls us to forgive one another, Msgr. Jerry McGrath said in the bulletin from St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica in Beaumont, Texas.
"We also learn the consequences of hardness of heart and unforgiveness [in the Gospel]," McGrath said in the bulletin. "Exploring the Sunday Readings for today sums it up this way: 'Gratitude is a debt we can always repay, no matter how empty our wallets. Forgiveness is a currency we always have in abundance.'"
McGrath noted we should pray so that we might always be grateful to God for his grace, mercy and blessings that we have received throughout our lives. He also asked that the community help victims of Hurricane Laura this week by sharing blessings through a special collection being taken up by the church.
"This is an opportunity for us to share our blessings with those in need of God ‘s mercy at this time," McGrath said. "Special collection envelopes will be available at Mass this weekend and in our parish office. You may also submit your contribution on the diocesan website at dioceseofbmt.org. Thank you in advance for your generous, charitable giving!"
