St. Augustine Church by-the-sea in Honolulu shared a note from the pastor in their Aug. 30 bulletin about their patron saint.

The Rev. Lane Akiona wrote to the congregation that the church was celebrating St. Augustine, the patron of the parish during the month of August, with St. Monica’s feast day being on Aug. 27 and St. Augustine’s feast day being on Aug. 28.

The parish celebrated their 166th anniversary in the month as well.

“It has been a somber time of reflection, especially with this COVID-19 pandemic in our midst,” Akiona said in the note. “I wonder how our parish responded to the last pandemic about 100 years ago.”

Akiona ended, recommending the congregation pray that St. Monica, St. Augustine and the Blessed Virgin intercede for the church, petitioning the Lord’s blessing on the parish in the future, whatever it may hold.

“Happy Anniversary and much blessing for the future,” the pastor said.
