Fr. Paul Redmond of St. Thomas More Catholic Student Parish in Kalamazoo, Michigan, reminded his parishioners to spend time praying.

"Jesus taught us the perfect prayer," Fr. Redmond said in the church's Aug. 23 bulletin. "Clergy is always encouraging people to do it. The Mass is the highest prayer that we can offer."

"Why is it important to offer personal time for prayer?" Redmond asked in the bulletin "Dr. Peter Kreeft in his book, Prayer for Beginners, he describes prayer as food for the soul! He writes that just as food nourishes and keeps the body alive, prayer nourishes and keeps the soul alive! Prayer keeps the soul alive because prayer is real contact with the real God. Prayer is active work, not a passive osmosis."

Redmond then addressed the question of how to pray, noting that if you have ever talked to yourself, you can pray: Just do the same thing, but this time address it to God. It's basic; it doesn't have to be complicated.
