Magnificat of Lincoln will host a prayer meal on November 22 at Hillcrest Country Club in Lincoln. The event, scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to noon, will include breakfast, prayer, praise and worship, as well as a talk by Father Jim Morin.
Father Morin serves as vice chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Lincoln and is also dean of men and an instructor at St. Gregory the Great Seminary in Seward. He was born in Lincoln and attended local Catholic schools before pursuing advanced theological studies in Rome. After his ordination in 2016, he completed further academic work, including a doctoral program in canon law at the Pontifical Lateran University.
During the event, Father Morin will share his personal testimony. Attendees will also hear a teaching from Father Robert Barnhill, who serves as spiritual advisor to Magnificat of Lincoln.
Registration for the prayer meal is $33 and must be completed by November 15; only pre-paid registrations are accepted and walk-ins are not permitted. Those interested can register online or contact coordinator Rhonda Litt by phone or text at 402-525-6396.
Magnificat is described as "a ministry to Catholic women, a private association of the faithful within the Catholic Church under the jurisdiction of the Lincoln Diocese." Women from other Christian denominations are welcome to attend.
The organization began with its first prayer meal in New Orleans in 1981 and has since expanded internationally with chapters across several countries including Canada, Malta, Poland, Africa, and others. The Morningstar Chapter in Lincoln held its first event on March 9, 1996.
According to Magnificat's mission statement: "The primary purpose of Magnificat is to help Christian women become more open to the Holy Spirit through a deeper commitment of their lives to Jesus as Lord and to impart the Holy Spirit to one another by love, service and sharing the good news of salvation."
