Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., D.D. Archbishop | Archdiocese of Newark website
The Archdiocese of Newark has announced its annual Memorial Mass to honor deceased clergy members, including Archbishops, Bishops, Priests, and Deacons. The event will take place on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark. Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin will serve as the principal celebrant.
“All members of the Archdiocesan community—clergy, religious, and lay faithful—are warmly invited to attend this sacred liturgy of remembrance and thanksgiving,” according to the announcement.
Clergy who wish to participate are asked to RSVP to Graceann DelMauro. Additional information can be found at rcancem.org.
In addition to the Memorial Mass, Cemetery Sunday will be observed on November 3. The Archdiocese encourages visits to Catholic cemeteries for prayer and reflection in memory of loved ones.
A memorial concert titled “Requiem: A Memorial Concert in Memory of the Faithfully Departed” by Michael John Trotta is scheduled for November 3 at 3:00 p.m., also at the Cathedral Basilica. The concert is presented by Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Newark and features The Cathedral Choir, soloists, an orchestra directed by John J. Miller, and organist Chung A. Hong.
A pre-concert reflection led by Anita Foley will begin at 2:20 p.m. in the Lady Chapel. Guests may write names of deceased loved ones in a Book of Remembrance upon arrival.
Admission is free with a free-will offering accepted; no tickets are required. Further details about the concert series are available at newarkbasilica.org/concert-series.
