Louisville-area parishes announce fall events including worship services, retreats, support groups

A series of religious events and support programs are scheduled across Louisville in September and October, organized by various Catholic groups and parishes.

The Marian Committee will conduct a First Saturday Devotion on September 6 at St. Ignatius Martyr Church, beginning with Mass at 9 a.m., followed by devotion and reconciliation. The event will include adoration, a Gospel reading, homily, and sacred music.

On September 8, the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville are offering Taizé prayer at their Motherhouse Chapel. More information is available through the Ursuline Sisters' contact channels.

The St. Serra Club of Louisville is hosting a Holy Hour for Vocations on September 10 at St. Margaret Mary Church. The club’s next luncheon meeting is set for September 15 at Golden Corral, featuring speakers Garry Burry and John Sohl.

Young adults can attend a Mass and Community Networking Fair on October 8 at the Cathedral of the Assumption. Organized by the Young Catholic Professionals Louisville Chapter and the Office of Youth and Young Adults, this free event includes food and drinks. A Special Disciples of Jesus Mass for special needs families will be held on September 21 at St. Margaret Mary Church, followed by a light reception.

Artists interested in spiritual reflection can join “Treasures in Clay,” an artist retreat from September 12 to 14 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Registration options are available for full or one-day participation.

The Young Catholic Professionals Louisville Chapter also plans an executive panel discussion titled “Meet the YCP Louisville Board” on September 16 downtown.

Social activities include a Putt-Putt game followed by dinner hosted by the Catholic Single Adults Club on September 14.

The Benedictine Oblates’ Louisville Chapter meets on September 21 with Dr. Beverly Weinhold discussing spiritual direction; vespers and refreshments will follow.

Single Catholic men ages 20-40 interested in monastic life can attend a discernment weekend October 10-12 with the Benedictine Monks of St. Meinrad Archabbey.

Support groups continue throughout fall: Walking Through Grief meets weekly at St. Margaret Mary Church both in person and via Zoom; Ups & Downs offers monthly sessions for those facing grief or depression; GRASP provides support to those who have lost someone to addiction; Nourish for Caregivers holds monthly meetings for caregivers via hybrid format; all offer contact information for registration or inquiries.

St. Francis Xavier Church Women’s Club hosts bunco on September 11 in Mount Washington with food included in admission.

St. Stephen Martyr Church presents the International Eucharistic Miracles of the World Exhibit created by Blessed Carlo Acutis—who is set to be canonized—on September 6-7 in its activity center (more about Carlo Acutis's upcoming canonization can be found at https://www.vaticannews.va/en/saints/09/07/blessed-carlo-acutis.html).

ArchLou’s Great Novena organizes a “Year of Wonder Hike” at Abbey of Gethsemani on October 4 to mark the feast of St. Francis (event details: https://greatnovena.org/community/events).

Two concerts open to all will take place this month at Loretto Motherhouse in Nerinx, Kentucky.

Flaget Alumni Association convenes its next meeting on September 10 featuring University of Louisville athletics director Josh Heird as speaker.

Father Joe Rankin leads Bible study sessions starting September 9 at St. Rita Church focusing on Christian themes related to suffering and redemption.

The Archdiocese of Louisville Ministry Institute offers “Stewardship & Laudato Si’ ” class on September 16 addressing environmental stewardship within church teaching; advance registration is required due to limited space.

Finally, St. Bernadette Church’s Adult Christian Enrichment Program begins its six-session online series “Be Amazed: Path to God” this week with free registration available by phone.
