Seamus Carey, Ph.D. President | Iona University
Iona University has opened Bohm Hall, a newly renovated residence hall on its Bronxville campus. The facility offers updated living spaces and modern amenities for undergraduate and graduate students. Bohm Hall can house up to 70 students.
The university held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening, which included food trucks, games, giveaways, and music. President Seamus Carey, Ph.D., said: “While academic achievement is the focal point of an Iona education, the student experience outside the classroom is central to student learning and growth. The Bronxville campus provides an ideal setting for that learning and growth to happen.”
Sean Rivera ’25, ’26MS, who is pursuing a master’s degree in criminal justice and serves as a Resident Assistant at Bohm Hall, spoke about his experience: “Everyone moving in keeps telling me the same thing – that it feels less like a dorm and more like a hotel. And I think that says a lot not just about the design of this building, but about the care and thought that went into making it feel welcoming. And while the space itself is amazing, what’s even more exciting is the community we’re going to build here,” he said during his remarks. “Together, we are making history as we launch this next chapter of student life at Iona’s Bronxville campus.”
Bohm Hall adds to Iona’s presence in Bronxville alongside facilities such as the NewYork-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences and Kelly Center for Health Sciences. These developments contribute to positioning the campus as a center for academics and student activities.
The campus also supports NCAA Division I athletics teams including baseball, acrobatics & tumbling, golf, and will soon add men’s and women’s tennis using indoor and outdoor courts next year. Club sports such as weightlifting, soccer, lacrosse will continue this fall.
Performing arts have dedicated space in Sommer Center with facilities for dance programs—such as cheer and Irish dance—and ensemble performances.
Kevin O’Sullivan, senior vice president for Enrollment Management & Student Affairs commented: “Iona has been extremely intentional about expanding opportunities for our students to grow and flourish both inside and outside of the classroom. We are thrilled to welcome our first residential students to Iona Bronxville and cannot wait to see how they will continue to make it their own.”
Bohm Hall previously served Concordia College as residential housing for women enrolled at Iona; its renovation continues this legacy by serving current students’ needs.
The Village of Bronxville is located one mile from campus; it features shops, restaurants, theaters, walkable streetscapes often ranked among top places to live nationally (https://www.niche.com/places-to-live/bronxville-westchester-ny/). Students also benefit from nearby Metro-North trains providing access to Manhattan internships or cultural experiences (https://new.mta.info/agency/metro-north-railroad).
Iona University was founded in 1940 as a private Catholic institution offering liberal arts degrees along with business administration programs accredited by AACSB International—a distinction held by only 6 percent of business schools worldwide (https://www.aacsb.edu/accreditation/accredited-schools?F_Country=United+States&F_State=NY).
