Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez is set to ordain eight men to the Permanent Diaconate for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. This event follows their completion of a six-year formation program at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. The Rite of Ordination will occur during Mass after the Liturgy of the Word.
The ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. It will be held at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Philadelphia. The event will be streamed live on various platforms including Vimeo and Facebook Live.
Permanent Deacons serve as ordained clergy within the Roman Catholic Church. They can be single or married men who assist priests and bishops during liturgies, preach, teach, baptize, witness marriages, conduct funeral rites, administer Holy Communion to those who are sick or dying, and engage in various pastoral and charitable activities.

With an enrollment of 139 seminarians currently, it remains one of the largest seminaries in the United States. In 2024, it relocated to Lower Gwynedd Township where it continues its mission with updated facilities.
