St. John’s University recently held its annual Employee Recognition Ceremony, honoring the contributions of its employees on May 22. The event recognized nine individuals with Outstanding Achievement Awards and acknowledged long-serving employees, including James R. Campbell, Ph.D., who has dedicated 50 years to the institution.
The ceremony took place after the daily Mass at St. Thomas More Church, where University President Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P., addressed attendees: “We honor our colleagues today. As a community, we clarify the values we see in the people who work here. It is a way of saying that these people embody the best of St. John’s.”
A total of 107 active or newly retired employees were recognized during the event. Among them were 13 individuals with 40 years of service and another 38 who have served for 25 years.
Keaton Wong, J.D., Associate Vice President for Human Resources, presented Outstanding Staff Achievement Medals to Lauren C. Euell ’14CPS, ’19GCCPS; Susan E. Fourman; and Michele K. Gorry Biscotti ’85SVC, ’87SVC.
Jason T. Bartlett, Ph.D.; Lisa D. Jones ’10G; and Erin C. O’Neil ’09C received Outstanding Administrative Achievement Medals.
Outstanding Faculty Achievement Medals were awarded to Phyllis Conn, Ph.D.; Rev. Patrick S. Flanagan, C.M., Ph.D.; and Gary E. Martin, Ph.D.
“To be recognized this way is deeply humbling,” said Dr. Bartlett during his acceptance speech.
Among those retiring was Dennis M. Gallagher from the Office of Campus Ministry after a career spanning 38 years in Catholic education.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed working with everyone at St. John’s,” Mr. Gallagher commented on his retirement announcement.
