The House Energy and Commerce Committee has advanced a reconciliation bill aimed at halting taxpayer funding of the abortion industry. The move has been welcomed by SBA Pro-Life America, with its President Marjorie Dannenfelser expressing support for the bill.

"We congratulate Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Brett Guthrie and House GOP allies for their hard work on a budget that serves moms, babies and taxpayers alike," said Dannenfelser. She emphasized that "SBA will proudly score in favor of this 'one big beautiful bill' that includes the vital priority of stopping forced funding of the abortion industry."

Dannenfelser criticized pro-abortion Democrats, claiming they "peddled lies and ran cover for abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood." She noted an increase in taxpayer funding to Planned Parenthood, which reached $792.2 million in 2023, while other health services reportedly declined.

During the debate, pro-life congresswomen Harshbarger, Houchin, Fedorchak, and Lee opposed a Democrat amendment intended to continue funding what they referred to as "Big Abortion." According to Dannenfelser, "The Big Abortion industry is focused on profits, politics and lawfare," suggesting community health centers offer more comprehensive care.

The reconciliation bill will proceed to the House Budget Committee for consolidation with other bills before it reaches the House floor. If passed by the House, it will then be considered by the Senate.

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America describes itself as a network of over one million pro-life Americans working to end abortion through electoral advocacy and legislation.
