Abigail Drummond, a law student from Jamaica, Queens, is set to lead her fellow graduates as the J.D. Student Marshal for St. John's Law School's 2025 Commencement at Carnesecca Arena. Drummond's journey towards becoming a justice-driven lawyer began in high school with her involvement in social justice work and continued through her undergraduate studies at Princeton University, where she focused on health and technology.
At St. John's Law, Drummond rediscovered her passion for learning and excelled academically. She earned a place on the St. John's Law Review and became its first Black Editor-in-Chief as a rising third-year law student. "Being on the Law Review has been a highlight," she stated.
Drummond also took advantage of internships and study abroad opportunities offered by St. John's Law to enhance her skills and knowledge. "St. John’s Law opened the door to some amazing internships," she said.
In her final year, Drummond received the Student Excellence Award at the Law School’s annual Diversity & Inclusion Gala. "Receiving this year’s Student Excellence Award... was the first time that I felt affirmed in my successes," she expressed.
This fall, Drummond will begin working full-time at Alston & Bird. She hopes to inspire more girls and women of color to pursue careers in law despite potential challenges like imposter syndrome. "I’m proud to be a Black woman in a predominantly white profession," she remarked.
