The American Principles Project (APP) has announced that Paula Scanlan will join the organization as a Senior Fellow. Scanlan is known for her advocacy in women's sports and free speech, particularly from her time as an NCAA swimmer at the University of Pennsylvania.

Scanlan graduated in 2022 and competed on the university's women’s swimming and diving team. During her time there, she encountered challenges related to policies that allow biological males to compete in women’s sports. In 2023, inspired by other female athletes, she spoke out about the emotional and psychological impacts of these policies and how university administrators tried to suppress dissent. Her testimony has contributed to a national conversation on fairness, safety, and protecting women’s spaces.

At APP, Scanlan will work on advancing policies to safeguard women's sports and private spaces while addressing ideological pressures in education and public life. She will also be involved in APP’s research, public outreach, and coalition-building efforts.

Terry Schilling, President of APP, stated: “Paula Scanlan’s courage and clarity in addressing critical issues facing women and families align perfectly with APP’s mission. Her experience and commitment to truth will strengthen our efforts to protect women’s sports across our country. We are honored to have her join us as a Senior Fellow.”

Paula Scanlan expressed enthusiasm about joining APP: “I am excited to join the American Principles Project and work alongside a team dedicated to defending the values that make our nation strong,” she said. “Together, we can protect women’s rights, preserve the integrity of our institutions, and ensure that every voice is heard.”
