Ciridany Genchi Cortez, a visual arts major with a concentration in arts therapy at Christian Brothers University (CBU), has been named a Lasallian Fellow. This recognition aligns with her dedication to the Lasallian core values of service and learning. Despite initially mistaking the notification letter for spam, encouragement from professors led her to attend an informational meeting where she realized her contributions at CBU were valued.

Reflecting on her time at CBU, Cortez said, “Going and seeing all the students there, I reflected and realized I did make a difference in the three years I was at CBU.” Her journey to this point involved overcoming doubts about attending college after high school. A leadership development organization called U-LEAD played a pivotal role in empowering her decision to pursue higher education.

Cortez chose CBU for its intimate setting and strong values. Once there, she quickly became part of the Visual Arts Department. Professor Melinda Posey noted that "Ciri brought such warmth to the department," highlighting her welcoming nature towards new students.

Her involvement extended beyond academics as she joined STARS and campus ministry, which helped shape her character. Brother Christian Camacho described Cortez as someone who grounds those around her with integrity and support. “Ciri leads through example—acting with unwavering integrity,” he said.

Currently working as an interpreter for a K-12 district in Georgia, Cortez aims to teach art to children lacking creative outlets within five to ten years. Her experience at CBU left her feeling grateful and driven by faith and Lasallian values.

As Brother Camacho remarked, “When I think of what it means to be Lasallian, I think of Ciri.” Although she returned to Georgia after graduating in December, she will participate in the graduation ceremony on May 10.
