Walsh University is celebrating the graduation of its first students who transferred from Notre Dame College after its closure. Among the 23 graduates are Teryn Marais and Hunter Stratton, both part of the Walsh Men’s Rugby Team. They will be graduating at the commencement ceremony on May 3, 2025.

Marais, majoring in Sports and Business Management, shared his experience of transferring in his final year. "At first, the idea of transferring colleges for my final year was quite daunting," said Marais. He found comfort in transitioning alongside friends and praised the Walsh staff for their guidance.

Stratton, studying Government and International Affairs, similarly valued the supportive environment at Walsh. "What stood out to me the most is how much support we got from the rest of the university when we transferred in," Stratton remarked. He appreciated the thorough communication during the transition.

The seamless transfer was facilitated by a partnership between Notre Dame College and Walsh University. Following Notre Dame’s decision to close after the spring 2024 semester, Walsh offered guaranteed admission for displaced students, ensured the transfer of earned credits, and matched their tuition costs.

The university acknowledges these students' achievements and welcomes them as members of the alumni community. Stratton cherished a memorable night playing against Bowling Green State University as part of the rugby team.

After graduating, Marais plans to pursue an MBA and a career impacting others. Stratton will start as a Management Trainee with Enterprise Mobility. For both, graduating from Walsh is significant. "Graduation, to me, means a fresh start and gives me the confidence to attack any opportunity in my future," Stratton reflected.

Walsh University continues supporting students affected by college closures, ensuring degree completion and integration into their community.
